South Placerville Fuel Break

CAL FIRE is leading the development of the South Placerville Strategic Fuel Break Vegetation Management Plan (VMP) in cooperation with the El Dorado Resource Conservation District (RCD). This project spans the southern boundary of the City of Placerville along the Weber Creek drainage (see enclosed map). The purpose of this project is to increase wildfire resilience by establishing and maintaining a shaded fuel break. Reducing flammable vegetation within the project area will help create a zone where potential fires can be slowed and more effectively suppressed. Vegetation treatment methods will include hand cutting by fire crews, pile burning during the fall, winter, and spring, and the use of heavy equipment when conditions allow. Prescribed fire may also be incorporated where appropriate. No large trees or commercialization of forest products will be conducted.

Below you will find information about the project and resources for landowners.

5) Public Meeting Notice

If you own property in the project area and you wish to participate, please have both agreements signed where indicated and return them to RCD or CAL FIRE by February 13, 2026. Once the RCD and CAL FIRE's Northern Region Chief has signed the agreement(s) you will receive one fully executed copy along with the approved VMP and ROE for your records. These agreements will authorize CAL FIRE and/or RCD to implement the Project through 2035. Please note that while RCD and CAL FIRE intend to complete fuel reduction treatment throughout much of the identified project area, it may not be feasible to complete work on all parcels due to possible constraints that may arise, and therefore participation does not guarantee that fuel reduction work will happen on your property. However, ROE and RM-75 agreements are required before RCD/ CAL FIRE can conduct planning and fuel reduction work on private property, and we hope you'll consider signing. If you change your mind, you may withdraw from the VMP at any time.
